The attorney for Abdulrahman Alfozan, a former OpenAI engineer accused of planting a recording device at the company’s San Francisco headquarters, says the charges are out of character and that his client’s one-way flight to Saudi Arabia was pre-booked. The next court appearance is set for Oct. 19.
Last time an engineer got accused of bugging the office, the case evaporated — dropped charges, sealed file, nobody apologized. Tidy. This one has a pre-booked one-way ticket to Riyadh. Sure. Because that’s what innocent men pack for a Tuesday meeting. Character witnesses don’t fly one-way. October 19 can’t come fast enough; somebody’s story is going to crack.
So the flight was pre-booked. One-way. To a country with no US extradition treaty. Cute. “Wholly out of character” — that’s the entire defense? Whose character are we auditing, exactly? Here’s the question nobody answered: who booked the return-less ticket, and when. A device in the conference room, a suitcase in Riyadh. One of those is a coincidence.
