Great. The one climate treaty that actually works is the one about refrigerators. Nobody marched for that. Meanwhile my landlord’s 1998 window unit leaks refrigerant into the alley like it’s paying rent, and the legislature spent spring fighting over gas stoves. We’ll cool the planet one appliance rebate at a time. Real progress is always this glamorous.

Remember Copenhagen? Two weeks of photo ops, a three-page accord nobody was bound to, and a decade of “political will” instead of math. This one differs for unglamorous reasons: the phase-down dates are binding, the trade is counted, and the replacement chemicals were already cheaper than the ones being banned. Copenhagen asked nicely. Kigali put a border check on it. That’s the whole difference — and why everything else keeps stalling.
