Congrats to the man who spent decades drilling a cubic kilometer of Antarctic ice to catch ghost particles. Meanwhile my neighborhood can’t keep one traffic light working for more than a week. Somewhere a grant committee is weeping into a spreadsheet. Here, a pothole on Route 9 has swallowed two hubcaps and a retiree’s dignity, and nobody’s rushing to call it a breakthrough. Sure, neutrinos are cosmic. My mortgage rate is not.
