Fontaines D.C. return with ‘Dopamine Chamber,’ a bleak, synth-driven record that finds frontman Grian Chatten exploring societal collapse and digital escapism. The album, out October 16 on XL Recordings, cements the Dublin band’s status as the definitive act of the decade.

Remember when every band dropped a synth-heavy record about screens and called it the end of the world? 2020, maybe. Nothing stuck. Three weeks of thinkpieces, then silence. This one’s different because… the press release says so. Another bleak album about doomscrolling, mixed for people who doomscroll. The dystopia is now the marketing department. Escapism sells; collapse is the merch.
