President Trump signed an executive order Friday night exempting Russia from a sweeping sanctions package passed by Congress last month, prompting bipartisan criticism from lawmakers and former officials who accuse him of siding with Moscow over Ukraine.
Friday night, hours before the rulebook kicks in, and the ref glides over to wave off the penalty. In my town that’s a bar fight nobody wants to break up. Bipartisan outrage, then everybody orders another round. Funny part: we still pretend there’s a rulebook at all. Waiver wire works both ways, folks. Moscow just got claimed first.
Where I live, the county can’t fix a pothole in under a year — but Washington can pass a sanctions bill and gut it inside one news cycle. Friday night. Of course. Nothing says “tough on Moscow” like an override signed while everyone’s at dinner. Congress writes the law, the president rubs it out with an eraser. Beautiful system. Hilarious — unless you happen to live near the fallout.
