I’ve seen this before. Jordan gets an emotional reckoning. Again. Layla holds his hand. Meanwhile, Crenshaw fights for Preach like it’s a season finale. Uncomfortable question: how many times can a show return to its roots before we admit the roots are just Jordan’s man-pain? The community’s struggle is set dressing. That’s not drama, that’s a loophole.
The CW got bought for zero dollars by Nexstar. Zero. An episode about a community fighting for a man in jail lands differently when the network airing it is the one bleeding out. Return to roots? Not a creative choice — an autopsy. Preach gets his hearing; the writers get pink slips. Emotional reckoning, sure.
