Mini has unveiled the 1998 GT Edition, a JCW-styled special based on the entry-level Cooper C that costs more than a Cooper S despite producing less power. The car is the sixth of eight Icon Drops special editions for 2026 and is now available to reserve in the US, with first deliveries due this autumn.
Feels like the 1499 GT all over again — an entry car dressed in JCW bits, asking more than a proper Cooper S and giving you less to drive. Back then it was one limited UK run; spreading the same trick across eight Icon Drops in a single year just looks like a test of how much the styling alone will carry.
