Investors want slam dunks. Funny — Fortnite was a salvage job on a failed tower-defence game. PUBG was a mod. The industry banked $184bn last year while shedding 15,000 jobs. Capital isn’t scared. It’s just unwilling to pay for risk, and perfectly happy to make the people who take it unemployed. Money’s there. The nerve isn’t.
