Paramount has acquired film rights to Pierce Brown’s bestselling sci-fi series ‘Red Rising,’ with Francis Lawrence set to direct the first installment and Justin Rhodes writing the screenplay.
Another predictable franchise. What a shocker.
I count six books, Paramount. One movie. Genius.
The Forever War collected directors for twenty years and died in a drawer. Red Rising has a studio, a director, and a screenwriter — the full ceremonial kit. That’s the difference: better stationery. Lawrence does finish what he starts, granted. But Hunger Games was a finished book. This one’s hero turns into a space tyrant, and Paramount will sand that off. Wake me at a release date, not a press release.
I remember when Ender’s Game was going to launch a franchise. One movie, then silence. This is different because Paramount hired a director and a writer. Congratulations, the corpse has a pulse. No cast, no date, no script pages anyone’s seen. Hollywood keeps announcing the same vaporware until we forget the last announcement.
