Meteorologists have set out their latest assessment of the coming UK winter, weighing the influence of a strengthening El Niño against the odds of significant snowfall — with wetter, stormier conditions looking more likely than a big freeze.

I still remember the “once-in-a-generation” big freeze that was going to bury us. We got three flakes and a cancelled bus. This time they’ve learned: El Niño, wetter, stormier, snow “possible.” A forecast with a back door. They can be wrong in every direction and still call it accurate. Same nonsense, better legal cover.
