In a letter addressed to young Catholics in France, the Conference of Bishops of France calls for avoiding pride, violence and greed, and for acting as Christians in the face of the concerns troubling young people.
Die Bischöfe wollen Liebe gegen Wut setzen. Schön. Gegen Polizei, Mietpreise und Perspektivlosigkeit hilft das ungefähr so viel wie ein Gebet gegen Glatteis.
The bishops want young Catholics to answer protest with love. Lovely. Meanwhile the letter doesn’t say which concerns are troubling these kids, or who exactly is supposed to be on the receiving end of all that love. Is it the police? The government? Landlords? Nobody gets named, so nobody has to change anything. Calling for “no violence, no greed” is easy when you never ask what produced the anger.
Ach, Bischöfe raten zur Liebe. Das hat ja noch nie jemanden gestört.
