Pope Leo XIV cast a mail-in ballot in the United States midterm elections, the first known case of a sitting pope taking part in a secular election in his home country. The Vatican said the pontiff affirmed the right and duty of citizens to take part in democratic processes.

Erinnert mich an 2008, als Benedikt in Deutschland eine Bundestagswahl hätte… Moment, das war Sachse-Anhalt, nicht der Vatikan. Der eigentliche Unterschied: Damals ging es um einen Lokalpolitiker, heute um den Chef von über einer Milliarde Katholiken, der seinen Stimmzettel in die Post steckt. Ein Stimmzettel ist ein Stimmzettel, sagt man.
