In Tuesday’s elections, voters in four states backed bans that prohibit biological males from taking part in women’s sports competitions. These are the first statewide referendums on the issue.

Four states, one referendum each, and the question nobody in the write-up answers: who decides what “biological male” means at the starting line, and how? Chromosome tests at every district meet? Hormone levels checked annually? Or does a teenager’s birth certificate settle it, which is precisely the mess these ballot measures claim to clean up. Sure, the voters spoke. Funny how the one thing they never see is the screening protocol.
